Showcasing our favourite brands to find out a little more about the inspiration behind their fabulous clothes. This week we are featuring The Original Muck® Boot Company.

Please tell us a bit about you and the brand

The Original Muck® Boot Company story began in 1999 with the sole purpose of building the most comfortable, high-performance footwear on the market. The need for a more comfortable boot for use in messy and tough conditions led to the design of The Original Muck® Boot Company branded footwear.

Every boot in the line is expected to deliver the same 100% waterproof quality and comfort that inspired the original footwear. In just a few years, the line has grown to over 60 styles of rubber and leather footwear, all designed to tackle tough conditions in work, agriculture, lawn and garden, outdoor sporting, equine, urban commuter and pet care markets.

Today, the Muck® Boot brand defines a standard of comfort and quality that goes beyond the expectations of customers around the country. Quickly establishing a strong and loyal customer base, the brand has become one of the fastest growing lines in the waterproof footwear market. All Muck® Boot products are 100% waterproof.

When coming up with a new season, how do you start? Do you have an idea of designs/prints?

When a new season approaches, we start by considering what has sold well the previous season, or for that season the previous year, and look to develop these areas further. For things that haven’t sold so well, we have to analyze why and assess whether we want to continue with these products. For prints, we look further afield into retail and fashion markets to get an idea of trends – we will consider whether gingham or floral prints, for example, are set to be big.

If you had to pick your favourite piece from your new collection, what would it be and why?

My favourite launch from the kids’ collection for this season has to be the collaboration with Hasbro. We have teamed up with the brand to create a 12-piece children’s boot collection featuring characters from the My Little Pony and Transformers franchises. The characters, emblazoned on the bestselling Hale and Rugged II boots, appear in full-colour, with added child-friendly features like glitter prints, confetti midsoles, and colour-contrast lining. This is our first children’s collaboration so we’re all very excited.

When you look at other designers, who is your favourite?

We look to different designers for inspiration for different collections – for example, Hasbro’s cartoon characters inspired us to embark on this children’s collaboration – but, in general, my favourite designer to look to for inspiration is Georg Jensen. The Georg Jensen brand represents craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic design, and this is exactly what we try to embody at The Original Muck Boot Company.

What is inspiring you for the next collection?

For SS17, we have been inspired by the Royal Horticultural Society and its beautiful designs to further our collaboration with them and create the brand new Muckster II Prints. We launched the RHS Tremont boot this season – a limited edition version of our Tremont boot decorated with three gardening-inspired prints – and its success has encouraged us to decorate another of our bestselling boots with the fantastic RHS designs.
